Ahmad Al-Haji is an assistant professor of finance at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). He obtained his Ph.D. degree from the University of Alberta in 2017. He has an M.Sc. in finance from Concordia University, Montreal, and a B.Sc. Summa Cum Laude (highest honours) from the United Arab Emirates University. His doctoral thesis is titled: “Trade size and the changing nature of price formation” and his research interests lie at the intersection of empirical asset pricing and empirical market microstructure. Al-Haji’s current research projects focus on the role of trades in incorporating information into stock prices and on explaining equity mispricing by investors’ trading patterns. He also enjoys teaching investment analysis, portfolio management, risk management, and international finance.

Pouya Behmaram, Ph.D.
Pouya Behmaram, Ph.D. Pouya Behmaram s’est joint à l’École des sciences de la gestion (ESG UQAM) en 2024 à titre de professeur adjoint de finance. Il est titulaire d’un doctorat en finance de l’Université McGill et d’une maîtrise en finance et économie de la London School of Economics (LSE). Ses intérêts de recherche se situent à l’intersection de l’évaluation des actifs, des fonds d’investissement et de l’évaluation de la performance. Il s’intéresse plus particulièrement à l’impact du virage vers l’investissement passif sur l’élasticité du marché et le prix des actifs. Ses travaux ont été récompensés par des prix tels que le meilleur article à l’IFMB 2025 et ont été présentés lors de conférences de premier plan, notamment la Midwestern Finance Association (MFA), le Four Corners Academic Meeting et la Financial Management Association (FMA). Ses recherches ont également fait l’objet d’une couverture médiatique dans des publications de l’industrie telles que Institutional Money Magazine et Pareto Asset Management. Il enseigne l’évaluation des titres, la finance multinationale et la gestion financière.
Pouya Behmaram joined ESG UQAM in 2024 as an Assistant Professor of Finance. He holds a PhD in Finance from McGill University and an MSc in Finance and Economics from the London School of Economics (LSE). His research interests lie at the intersection of asset pricing, funds, and performance evaluation. He focuses specifically on the impact of the shift towards passive investing on market elasticity and asset prices. His work has been recognized with awards such as the IFMB 2025 Best Paper and has been presented at leading conferences, including the Midwestern Finance Association (MFA), Four Corners Academic Meeting , and the Financial Management Association (FMA). His research has also been featured in industry media such as Institutional Money Magazine and Pareto Asset Management. He teaches courses in Securities Valuation, Multinational Finance , and Financial Management.
Frank-Olivier Garane, Ph.D.
Frank-Olivier Garane est professeur au département de finance de l’ESG UQAM. Il a obtenu un doctorat en finance à HEC Montréal, ainsi qu’une maîtrise en économie de l’Université de Toronto et un baccalauréat spécialisé en économie de l’Université de l’Alberta. Ses travaux de recherche portent sur household finance, entrepreneurship et corporate finance, avec un intérêt particulier pour l’utilisation de larges données administratives. Avant son doctorat, il a travaillé comme analyste sur les marchés des capitaux (Montréal / New York). Il enseigne la finance d’entreprise.
Frank-Olivier Garane is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Finance at ESG UQAM. He holds a Ph.D. in Finance from HEC Montréal, an M.A. in Economics from the University of Toronto, and a B.A. (Honors) in Economics from the University of Alberta. His research focuses on household finance, entrepreneurship, and corporate finance, with a particular interest in the use of large administrative datasets. Before his doctoral studies, he worked as a capital markets analyst in Montréal and New York. He teaches corporate finance.
Olfa Hamza, Ph.D.
Prof. Olfa Hamza est titulaire d’un Ph.D. en finance de l’Université Laval et d’un MBA de l’Université d’Ottawa. Elle a occupé un poste de conseillère principale à la Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec avant de rejoindre le département de finance de l’ESG (UQAM) en 2008. Ses intérêts de recherche portent sur les marchés boursiers et la finance corporative. Ses publications sont parues dans différentes revues académiques, telles que Canadian Investment Review, The Journal of Investing, International Review of Financial Analysis, Emerging Markets Review.
Axelle Heyert, Ph.D.
Axelle Heyert is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of Quebec in Montreal, School of Management. She completed her PhD at the University of Strasbourg in 2025. She conducts research in empirical banking and corporate finance, with a focus on financial inclusion and credit access for firms and households. Her research links finance to current societal issues, including gender norms, sustainability, geopolitics, trust in banks, and well-being. She has published in peer-reviewed journals, such as the European Journal of Finance, International Review of Financial Analysis, and Finance Research Letters. She has worked on research projects at the Bank of Finland (BOFIT). Hamed Khadivar, Ph.D.
Hamed Khadivar is a professor of Finance at ESG UQAM. He holds a PhD degree in Finance from Concordia University in Canada and wrote his doctoral thesis on informed trading. Dr. Khadivar has published in peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Corporate Finance and European Financial Management. His research interests are in corporate finance, venture capital, fintech, corporate governance, Mergers and Acquisitions, and informed trading. His teaching interests broadly focus on corporate finance, financial management and fintech. Hamed Khadivar est professeur de finance à l’ESG UQAM. Nga Nguyen, Ph.D.
Nga Nguyen joined the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM) in 2021 as an Associate professor of finance. She obtained her PhD in finance from the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She has an MSc in finance and private equity from the London School of Economics, London, UK. Her research interests lie in the intersection of empirical corporate finance, corporate governance, social responsibility, and law. Her research has been presented at leading conferences, including the European Finance Association Annual Meeting, the Northern Finance Association Annual Meeting, the Paris December Meeting, the Financial Intermediation Research Society, and the American Finance Association. Her research was also featured in the Columbia Law School (CLS) Blue Sky Blog. She teaches courses in corporate finance, financial management, and international finance.
Saurabh Roy, Ph.D.
Saurabh Roy is a professor of finance at ESG UQAM. He received his PhD from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2023. His research focuses on empirical asset pricing and financial intermediation.

Alexandre F. Roch, Ph.D.
Alexandre F. Roch, Ph.D. Professeur au département de finance de l’ESG UQAM depuis juin 2010, Alexandre Roch a écrit sa thèse sur le risque de liquidité et les bulles spéculatives sous la direction de Philip Protter et Robert Jarrow à l’université de Cornell. Par la suite, il a fait un postdoc à ETH Zürich sous la supervision du professeur Mete Soner. Il a publié dans les revues Finance and Stochastics et Quantitative Finance. Il enseigne les cours de produits dérivés aux premier et deuxième cycles.
Alexandre Roch wrote his thesis on liquidity risk and speculative bubbles under the supervision of Philip Protter and Robert Jarrow at Cornell University. He then spent one year at ETH Zürich as a postdoc under the supervision of Mete Soner. Since June 2010, he is a professor of Finance at ESG UQAM. He has published papers in Finance and Stochastics and Quantitative Finance. He teaches derivative products to undergraduate and graduate students.
Ivan Stetsyuk, Ph.D.
Ivan Stetsyuk joined ESG-UQAM in 2015. He has received Ph.D. in Finance at Temple University in Philadephia. His research interests are mutual funds, executive compensation, and family business. Ivan Stetsyuk has published in Post-Communist Economies and Family Business Review. Before joining UQAM, Ivan Stetsyuk worked at Johns Hopkins University and Temple University. At UQAM, he teaches Corporate Finance and Equity Asset Valuation. He incorporates his previous working experience in investment banking and private equity firms on Wall Street into the teaching curriculum.

À l’UQAM, il enseigne la gestion financière, ainsi que l’analyse et l’évaluation financières d’entreprise. Dans le programme d’enseignement, il intègre son expérience professionnelle au sein des banques d’investissement de Wall Street.
Xiazhou Zhou, Ph.D.
Xiaozhou Zhou holds a PhD in Finance from HEC Montréal. His research focuses on market microstructure, high-frequency trading strategies, and risk management. He joined the Department of Finance at ESG-UQAM in June 2015 as an assistant professor. He is a member of the Canada Research Chair in Risk Management and the Chaire Caisse de dépôts et placements du Québec in portfolio management. He teaches a postgraduate course in trading and simulation. He has published his article, entitled Liquidity-adjusted Intraday Value at Risk modeling and risk management: An application to data from Deutsche Börse, in the Journal of Banking & Finance
